The city of Nairobi, Kenya came to a standstill on Sunday 26th February as a national record of 264 gamers turned up at the Alliance Francaise to compete in the eLigue 1 Tour, FIFA23 competition.

The gaming action left spectators and gamers on tenterhooks throughout the day-long event as rookies took the game to the more seasoned gamers.

All the FIFA esports stars were in the building from Elias “Stylz” Onchari, to Luony “Fox” Teat to Shantel “Starlight” Njogu, Maria Kiuru, Peter “Mauwano” Mumu, Eric “Demon” Ngige, Evander “Viera” Maina.

The results of the day were lit with surprises. The biggest of them all was the elimination of the defending champion “fox” in the first round as “Porkchop” got the best of him. Stylz, last year's runner up was also knocked out in the second round.

Of last year’s top 8 finalists, only George Kimaru managed to qualify for the finals once again. He will now be joined by,  Eric “demon” Ngige, Harry “Kappa” Thuku, Dennis “Mbemba” Musyoki,  George Kimaru, Derrick “derro” Maina, Lennox “Camzy” Kuloba,  Kariuki “porkchop” Adrian,  Emmanuel “Taliban” Atak.

Defending champion Fox, was gracious in defeat, wishing the finalists the very best, “ I am disappointed not to make it to the top 8 finals. I have to say that my opponent was better than me today and that the scene is very competitive. If you blink, you are beaten. I wish all the finalists the best and may the best gamer win.”

The final is slated for March 11, 2023 at Alliance Francaise from 6:00 pm to 9:00pm and shall be streamed on IndexG Esports YouTube channel.
