Zaid crowned SBA Esports Cup Champ

South Africa’s Zaid April was crowned the Sportsbiz Africa Esports Cup champion after overcoming Egypt’s XMozaa 2-1 in the grand finale played at the Zaria Court in Kigali, Rwanda. The tense finale saw the two stars draw 0-0 in the first leg before Zaid bagged a 2-1 victory in the second leg.

It was a sweet revenge for Zaid who had lost to the same opponent in the opening match of the tournament and had to fight back to break out of a difficult group A.
The win marks the first international trophy for the Goliath Gaming player and he couldn’t hide his joy at the post-match
“Man, this is big for me. My season wasn’t amazing, locally (in South Africa) I didn’t win anything and to come here and win it means a lot. It was a tough season, but the toughness makes you stronger,” he added, emphasising the resilience a player must sometimes have.

He walks away with $2500 for his victory, while second placed Xmozaa takes $1500. Semi finalists’ Harry Kappa (Kenya) and Aksam (Uganda) take $500 each.
