Demon retains eLigue 1 Tour Kenya crown

Demon poses with his trophy!

Defending champion Eric “Demon” Ngige delivered a memorable clutch performance to retain his eLigue1 Tour Kenya crown at a packed Zetech University auditorium. With the top eight FC24 gamers from around the country vying for the coveted title, the grand finale was sure to be nail-biting—and it did not disappoint.

The quarter-finals showcased the dominance of Nairobi-based gamers, with Jojo Depay and Fox eliminating Mombasa’s Ahmed and Lil Pip with aggregate scorelines of 8-3 and 5-2, respectively, in their two-legged ties. Kappa also put on an impressive display, demolishing Nakuru’s Penu with a staggering 14-1 victory.

A fan reacts as things got heated in the auditorium.

However, the most dramatic quarter-final unfolded between defending champion Demon and Nakuru’s Messi. In a surprising turn, Messi won the first leg 4-2, putting the pressure on Demon. In the second leg, Messi held onto a 0-1 scoreline, knowing that a loss by a solitary goal would see him advance. But Demon had other plans. In a thrilling finish, he scored a last-minute goal in added time, equalizing the aggregate score at 4-4 and sending the match into extra time. The fans erupted in excitement as Demon seized the momentum, scoring three additional goals in extra time to secure a 5-0 victory and advance with a 7-4 aggregate score.

Semi - finalist Harry Kappa in action!

In the all-Nairobi semi-finals, Jojo Depay overcame Kappa with an aggregate score of 7-5, while Demon triumphed over Fox with a 6-1 aggregate, despite losing the first leg 0-1.

In the final, Demon turned the tables, refusing to let his opponent take the lead. He struck early with two quick goals, ultimately defeating Jojo Depay 9-4 on aggregate, with match scores of 5-1 and 4-3 across the two legs.

Demon’s victory has earned him a back-to-back spot at the eLigue1 Tour global finals, set to be held in Paris, France, in May 2024.

Demon speaks moments after bagging the title!

“I’m thrilled to do this again,” Demon shared with our team. “I was on the brink of elimination in the quarters, but I stayed calm and focused on my abilities. I knew I had what it takes. Now, I’ll dust myself off and prepare for an even better performance in Paris.”
